BATH ARCHITECTURE 2008

Monday 23rd November 2009 18:30pm—20:30pm

Bath Architecture 2008's next event, in collaboration with the Holburne Museum of Art is a debate entitled “Bath’s Heritage was created by Bath Architects - the City does not need Architects of international reputation to create its Future Heritage”

This issue is a very real one in Bath at this time. BA2008 in collaboration with the Holburne Museum of Art has arranged for the proposition to be debated in public. The proposition will be put by Aaron Evans, a Bath Architect who has practiced in the City for 30 years and has been responsible for the Regeneration of Saw Close with the Seven Dials scheme and the Kingsmead Multiplex Cinema. Aaron will be supported in the proposition by Edward Nash, a Bath Architect of 20 years standing who includes in his achievements The American Museum In Britain and The Regeneration of the St Martin’s Hospital Site, both Bath projects.

The proposition is to be opposed by Eric Parry RA, the internationally known architect chosen by the Holburne Museum for its controversial contemporary extension of a listed building. This is probably the most challenging test of the relevance of contemporary architecture in an extension to an important Grade I listed building in the City. Eric Parry will be supported by Sir Richard MacCormac, also an internationally recognised past President of the Royal Institution of British Architects and with distinguished service as a Royal Fine Art Commissioner and for the last several years a member of the Bath Urban Regeneration Panel.
